Collaborative resolution

Design the next chapter together.

A cooperative approach to family transitions, centered on shared priorities and durable solutions.

A considered approach.

A family transition can benefit from a process built around the people involved. Collaborative resolution focuses on understanding priorities, developing options, and making deliberate decisions about the future.

Areas of focus

  • Clarifying goals and shared priorities
  • Child-centered planning
  • Considering professional support
  • Developing practical agreements
  • Planning for the family’s next chapter
Understanding the scope

Build a process around your family’s next chapter.

Rachel Maxwell-Booker

The Collaborative Process provides a framework for constructive family transitions: identifying goals, understanding family needs, considering professional guidance, developing options, documenting agreements, and planning for the next chapter.

Begin by identifying priorities and understanding the family’s needs. Consider appropriate professional support, develop parenting and financial options, and work toward clear documentation and practical plans for life after the transition.

Before beginning, participants discuss the structure of the process, each professional’s role, and whether the approach fits their circumstances. Cooperative negotiation, mediation, and a formal collaborative-law engagement involve different responsibilities; the selected structure is defined in the applicable agreements.
